On Tuesday, Sept 8, 2015, volunteers from USHG will team up with City Harvest at their Long Island City Food Rescue Facility to repack thousands of pounds of rescued produce to be distributed to emergency food programs within the five boroughs.
Much of the food that City Harvest procures comes to them in large capacity containers, and poses a challenge to distribute equitably. With the power of volunteers, they take thousands of pounds of produce, and repack them into smaller, family-sized units for community food programs to give to their constituents.
Volunteers should wear long pants and must wear thick-soled, closed-toe shoes (no flip flops, ballet flats or sandals. Sneakers recommended). Moderate heavy lifting may be required. The Food Rescue Facility is the same temperature as the outdoors, so please dress appropriately.
Following the repack, we plan to continue socializing at a local LIC brewery or pub!
